Builder AI
id: academy-builder-ai · ~2–4 min
Audience: Admin
Optional feature: Builder AI appears in Form Builder only when your company has the feature enabled (plan flag or admin toggle). If you do not see a Builder AI action in the toolbar, your workspace does not have it—use manual field editing instead. Nothing in this article is required to publish forms.
What Builder AI does
When available, Builder AI accepts plain-language instructions to propose changes to the form definition:
- New forms — generate a first draft from a short brief (required sections, evidence fields, business rules described in text).
- Existing forms — add, remove, or reshape fields without dragging each element manually.
It operates on structure—field types, labels, groups, formulas you describe—not on live submission data. You review the diff before saving, same as any manual edit.
How to use it
- Open Form Builder (create new or edit published).
- If enabled, click Builder AI in the header actions.
- Describe what you need in the composer—for example:
- "Inspection form with before/after photos, pass/fail radios, and signature."
- "Add a repeatable parts section with SKU list, quantity, and line total formula."
- "Simplify page 2—merge the three comment boxes into one."
- Wait for the draft proposal. Review added, updated, and removed fields in the summary.
- Accept or adjust on the canvas, then Save the form when satisfied.
Suggested prompt chips may appear when the feature is on—they are starting points, not mandatory templates.
Good instructions
Be specific about:
- Required vs optional sections
- Field types (list, photo, signature, formula)
- Conditional behavior in words ("show leak details only when issue type is Leak")
- Languages for labels if you publish bilingual forms
Builder AI may not configure every advanced setting (Data Source filters, min/max repeatable rows, visibility operators). Expect to finish those in the standard field panels.
Limits and responsibility
- Output is a draft—verify slugs, required flags, visit-type attachments, and mobile preview before rollout.
- AI will not bypass your role permissions; admins still need Form Builder access.
- Feature availability, model quality, and quotas depend on your Chekku subscription—contact support if the button is missing but you expected access.
Tips
- Start from AI for skeleton layout, then hand-tune Lists from Data Sources and Conditional visibility.
- Keep a manual backup export or duplicate form before large AI edits on production definitions.
- Do not paste sensitive personal data into prompts; describe field types instead of real customer records.
- When Builder AI is off, the rest of the Academy form guides apply unchanged.
